Yesterday was an exciting bird day for me. I have been hearing a 3 note call for 2 weeks and could never get a fix on the bird who stayed hidden in the trees but happened to look out my window and saw a Harris Sparrow in my birdbath. Their range is in the middle of Canada and the US where they are fairly common but considered “accidental” in the West. This is a life bird for me, and this morning I was able to pick it out in the trees when I heard it calling. I also have a beautiful White Throated Sparrow – common in the east and similar to our White Crowned Sparrow which are abundant here in the winter. The WTS does winter here in very small numbers, I see one every 2 or 3 years.
How about that, a flying cat! (Hey, that rhymes.) Lucky for birds that cats can’t really fly. On another note, saw four robins, two chickadees, a nuthatch, three rabbits, and two juncos while out walking today.
