    My guess is that if they mention any specific events, they’ll be dating things. Betty’s in her forties, but she’s been the same age for 25 years at least, so they can’t mention stuff from when she was 15—which now would be in the 90s—because we the readers know that the strips from the 90s still have her in her 40s.
