The monsters of youth tend to fade away when you’re older.

The monsters of childhood move inside us as we grow up. And stay there.

Oh, I clearly remember how scientists warned that were entering a new ice age and that the hole in the ozone layer was growing and going to let in radiation… don’t you?

My guess is that if they mention any specific events, they’ll be dating things. Betty’s in her forties, but she’s been the same age for 25 years at least, so they can’t mention stuff from when she was 15—which now would be in the 90s—because we the readers know that the strips from the 90s still have her in her 40s.

Monsters? How about Adolph Hitler, the atomic bomb, TB, unsafe working conditions, smallpox, natural disasters, etc. Shall I go on?
