Nobody is going to like this, but is there a quota system? Like at least 25% Black coaches, to match the population? If so, to be fair and equal, how about 75% white players? Can we have two standards, one for coaches, and one for players?
No ‘white’ [‘black’ / ‘latino’ / ‘asian’ / ‘other’ / ‘mixed race’] players are denied a chance to make the team. Anyone with creds can try out — may the best one win and be hired.
No ‘black’ / ‘latino’ / ‘asian’ / ‘other’ / ‘mixed race’ coaches are seriously being considered for head coaching jobs, regardless of their creds.
The Rooney Rule is the NFL’s attempt to compel teams to interview qualified minority coaching candidates. Time and again, coaches who have provable better qualifications than the eventual hire are passed over. The better ones passed over are almost always people of color. The job interviews are a sham.
Quota System is just another culture wars trigger phrase, a cloudy lens to blur the issue. Fairness is not about quotas. Fairness is all about not being discriminated against.
I thought from the inception the Rooney Rule was full of holes: Okay, we interviewed the minority guy. Box checked. Now let’s hire the guy we really want.
Remember, it wasn’t all that long ago that coaches wouldn’t consider that a Black man could be capable of being a quarterback. Doug Williams was the door-opener there, but lots of other capable Black athletes were relegated to play other positions because Blacks weren’t assumed to be smart enough to play the position.
Brian Flores took a team that was a sorry sack of manure to two winning seasons in two years, which hadn’t been done in Miami in close to 20 years. So, naturally, he should be fired.
Good luck to you in court, Mr. Flores. Good for you for instigating the lawsuit, realizing that it will likely get you the same future welcome from the NFL as Colin Kaepernick. Sometimes principle is more important; I respect that.

That is certainly what Flores says happened. And from way over here I have to agree it seems like what he said it was.

Having a person of color apply for a coaching job with no intention of hiring him

Nah. Yer theory is textbook false equivalency.

People of colour can play the game but are not allowed the write the playbook.

Even unqualified white coaches get real interviews. Black coaches get benched.

Don’t take any decisive action, continue to let the owners punt.
