I often get unusual scents off of fresh ground coffee. Once it’s brewed, it just smells of generic “coffee” to me. I have to drink mostly decaffeinated and the decaffeination process (there are several ways to do it) tends to destroy more subtle odors and flavors. One of the “holy grails” of agricultural research is to breed a coffee plant that has no caffeine but retains every other characteristic. So far, not much luck
Clayton’s probably not the right person to rate the coffee. Coffee is an acquired taste, and some people never acquire it. I know I didn’t care for it at his age, but I definitely acquired the taste later.
We’re not gourmets but we make really good coffee using Sumatra and Costa Rica from World Market, a French press and an electric tea kettle which heats the water to 200 degrees F.
Unlike Adam, I’ve never been able to detect all those “notes” that people claim to smell in wine, coffee, etc. — but with a nose like his, I’m not surprised.

I’m sort of the opposite of Clayton. I think coffee smells wonderful, but can’t stand the taste of it.

How about spending time with your infant son, instead of waxing poetic on a coffee bean??

Coffee takes some getting used to. Sort of like whiskey, but without all the falling down.

“You do you”? Is that the same as “you be you”?

The very highly priced Kopi luwak is made from coffee beans plucked from civets’ feces.
