The leading contender right now, Ketanji Brown Jackson, was a highly-honored graduate from Harvard Law School (she also attended her undergraduate coursework at Harvard), where (like Barack Obama) she was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.
While there are several other highly-qualified contenders, including Leondra Kruger, currently an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of my state of California, and Michelle Childs, currently on the Federal District Court of South Carolina and a favorite of Rep Jim Clyburn, Brown Jackson has the advantage of already having been confirmed twice, including by the current senate, in which she got 53 votes (Lindsay Graham, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski joined all Democrats) to her current seat on the D.C. Federal Court of Appeals, and the fact that she was a clerk for outgoing Justice Stephen Breyer, and is well-known by others on the Court.
I realize Biden, as a candidate promised any SCOTUS vacancy he filled would be by a well-qualified Black female judge. And granted, he should do so.
But if he comes to fill another vacancy after that, maybe he should pick a graduate from a community college or even an on-line correspondence course. That would give representation to a segment of the population, and probably a far wider one than some of those now on the Court. (—
How long before Moscow Mitch announces that he will try to shoot down ANY Nominee “Until After the Election”???
Remember, it’s FINE when a Qpublican makes a nomination during an election year, and it will be driven through "Con"gress in DAYS, but if a Democrat tries it, IT CAN’T BE ALLOWED!!!!
One does hope that Joe remembers the last time he picked based on gender and color. Sadly Kamela has not worked out well for either Joe or the party. I am sure there are many qualified.. do pick one that can do the job for all America and not just one branch.
Is a disservice to announce “ill nominate a black woman” should just say I’ll pick the best nominee and than just pick one of the very many qualify black women. Other wise seems like he gave her a leg up and its just pandering. Luckily there’s a quite a few qualify judges (I say this as a republican ) and hopefully he doesn’t choose the political route. Lets hope he doesn’t pull up another Kamala just checking boxes instead of qualifications
It would be nice if she were an adherent of some variety of Protestant confession. When the Declaration of Indep. was written, the idea of a Roman Catholic on the Supreme Court would never have seemed possible, never mind a Jew. (Remember the long-standing “Jewish seat”?) And a Negro?? Nevva hoppen!! And the lot of them would have fainted dead away at the very idea of a female women on the court! And look where we are now, they’re all Catholics and Jews, and there’s a Black man as well as two wimmens. —And the state of Florida is crafting a bill to demand that schools teach strictly the values of the very white and very protestant men who penned the Declaration of Independence.
SAVE THE SENATE AT ALL COSTS!!! As long as Moscow Mitch’s paws are not on the gavel, Dems can control the House (if the repugs produce any bills at all).

Let’s get a justice that puts the law, including precedent, over party and their religion.

One can pretend that presidents nominate judges to federal courts based solely on their qualifications. And one can clap to keep Tinker Bell alive.

Biden has a good chance to show color blindness, and nondiscrimination, but he is going to blow it.

We can’t seat a judge now, so close to an election.

I know a very sweet black woman who works as a cashier at a local grocery store. Let’s nominate her, since she fills all of Biden’s criteria.

Move quickly or Mitch will come up with some B.S. way of blocking the confirmation.

The VP wants it and will do anything to get it. Like she usually does.

Biden could have said that he wanted the most qualified person. If they happened to be colored, and female, so what.

The people of the United States still need 13 Supreme Court Justices no matter what as there are 13 judicial districts.
It would clear up the back log of cases to provide faster research and decisions for the case load as justice delayed is still justice denied.
