The GQP isn’t really trying to take us back to the “good old days”. That’s the image they feed their voters. But what they REALLY want is a one-party system and 100% power for their owners.
Got the wrong year there Mr. Rob Rogers. It should be the early 1800’ s. The republigoons would love nothing more than to make anyone who does not think like they do, slaves again.
Harsh! We don’t need more polarization. some of my best friends tend to vote Republican and I rarely do, but these friends are not longing for 1952 and Jim Crow. There are some rather visible folks on both sides that have gone overboard and provide the basis for painting everyone who is not like me to be wrong.
Let’s focus on a key component of the problem. Both sides have abandoned any sense of reason and have adopted the “It’s my way or the wrong way” logic. In government this means I must stop you and you must stop me; I’m not sure this is a process that will yield a productive response for the country we both love.
1952? It’s more like 1922 when the corporations took over and Warren Harding with Calvin Coolidge worshiped wealth. We had mass production, which lasted until mass consumption ended in 1929. As for segregation, it’s enough to say even the Kluxers could march in Washington.
My biggest question is how could an evildoer like trump encourage so much evil and corruption in a party that has been mostly steady before? maybe the bad has been there all the time trump is the catalyst!
Grew up in the 50s in a solidly republican family. The party obviously changed so much over the years, both parents died firm democrats. If my veteran father were alive today he would be horrified to see what the Guardians Of the Prosperous have become, and what they’re attempting to do to our democracy. The polarization is their choosing, and their advantage.

1952. Eisenhower, the last good Republican president. The sponsor of our Interstate Highway system, btw. A very socialist program.

When patriarchy was king and everyone knew their place. Only white men had power – in government, in business, in sports, and in the home.
