I did better than that. I got my daughter a job at my work place. After about a year working on a production line, she decided to go back to college and make something of her life! Success!
When my daughters went to work with me in the 90’s they didn’t like what I did (read contracts, deal with lawyers) they much rather pull staples and make photocopies. Today’s kids just go to HR, color B & W copies of the company logo and eat ice cream in the lunchroom. Neither activity really introduces them to the business world.
The first few years they had this where I worked, it actually did involve kids shadowing their parents while they did their jobs. A decade later, the companies I worked for had developed “special programs” for the kids which were very generalized and didn’t necessarily have anything to do with whatever the parent did for a living — so the kid didn’t actually spend any time with their parent, and the day was basically a glorified babysitting service provided by the company. I’d guess that “take your kid to work day” would now be equivalent to “let your kid stay home for the day” (for the many people working virtually, anyway).

When my son was growing up I had a flea market business selling used tires, yes I did call myself Doctor Tire
Every other Saturday was take my kid to work day
He loved it, once the truck was unloaded he was a kid loose in a flea market with money
He did work hard for the money

I did that with my girls when they were 8 – 14. My patients loved it. The girls made some new friends that they have kept since.
