I don’t have to imagine life without social media. I don’t use it. Tried for a time a decade or so ago. Found it boring, shallow, and a waste of time. From what I see, it has changed. It’s gotten worse.

I wrote my first computer program in 1966. I sent my first email and had my first cell phone in 1986. One might think I am a “bleeding edge” adaptor. I am not. I’m mainstream.

However, even at that, I am only willing to accept so much technology. I use technology to benefit me. I am not a slave to it. It unnerves people when my phone rings and I don’t answer it. I simply tell them, “I’m not that important. They’ll leave a voicemail.”

I DO have a special ring tone for my wife. I do NOT want to miss any of those calls :).

I have adapted to mobile phones. They are an essential piece of emergency equipment. I don’t use many of the smart features, however.

I was never part of the rumor mill (There’s no sense in telling me: first, I am not impressed, and second, I don’t bother repeating the rumor). So I was always the last to know if I ever got to know at all. It didn’t bother me then; it does not bother me now.

I don’t fret over FOMO.

All my jobs were without social media and the Internet.

what I cannot believe is that I worked decades before google could answer 90% of the questions I had each day. Less need for co-worker interaction, less meetings, more working for home (I was an early adopter of that technology)

January 1, 1983 is considered the official birthday of the Internet. If her first employment was when she was say 16, then she is 55.

Depends on the job. We’re not really offered any clues here.

I remember before the internet – work actually got done.

I never did social media on the job, unless you count gocomics.

I’d like to imagine a world without “influencers.”

I can only dream or is that nightmare.
