Omicron seems to kill about 4% of the unvaxxed and approximately 0% of the vaxxed; and vaccines do NOT prevent (re)infection nor transmission. Isn’t that all you really need to know?
The COVID Mother Ship remains in Earth orbit, despite the recent feeble Russian effort to vaporize it. [naughty, naughty!] It thanks you for continuing to nourish its myriads. “Earthlings are such easy prey.”
Those Americans who care about themselves, their intimates, their community, and their country find masks no inconvenience and have already queued up for all necessary vaccinations. The rest are failing the test.
Had my Covid-19 test again yesterday for cataract surgery tomorrow on the other eye. The nurse says to go ahead and come in for surgery as they’ll only call me if it’s “bad news” . . . told her I’d forget to put the cell phone on the charger . .“I’m good to go”. . . . Some people have no sense of humor . . . /S
Accepting that Covid-19 is not going to disappear if we ignore it — e.g. not getting vaccinated, not wearing masks, not distancing, etc — is very hard for those who favor magic and fantasy over science and reality.
Covid and the Alt-Reich’s assaults on democracy will be gone sooner than later. The consequences of climate denial, though, will still getting increasingly severe.
I’ve had my shots and booster, wear a mask when in public, avoid situations where social distancing isn’t observed. Got a sore throat and headache. I don’t get sore throats, or headaches. So I missed the big Xmas dinner, stayed home from church, kept warm and bundled up to take the dogs for their walks. Drank lots of fluids. Watched some old movies on the computer. Kept the house warm. Feeling better today. It is up to me to be responsible for me and to my loved ones. Others should do the same. Happy New Year!
Anyone who didn’t see another surge along with cancelled flights coming hasn’t been paying attention. Yes, I’m tired of the masks and distancing but I would rather stay healthy and help keep friends and family safe. The biggest let down for me is not being able to visit my mom.
The basic issues right now are not that Omicron is more deadly than previous variations but that it spreads much more rapidly, which means it can spawn new variants more rapidly — ones which can also spread rapidly and may be more deadly. Second, when people catch this variation, they still can’t go to work or to school. They still can’t do their part to keep the economy going — so flights and special events are cancelled, goods aren’t transported, stores aren’t stocked, restaurants and bars don’t open, people lose their income, lose their jobs and their homes, and people get angry and blame the government — forgetting that the government was trying to keep this from happening. If you are going to point fingers of blame, start pointing at the people who ignored the mask mandate, who refused to get vaccinated (I wonder if they also don’t vaccinate their pets?), and who ignored all social distancing recommendations because they weren’t going to have the government or anyone tell them what they can and can’t do. They are the ones who are putting the breaks on our economic recovery. They are the ones who are bringing our health care system to its knees. The government did what it could by passing legislation (well, some of it got passed) to protect people on the first go-around and the mandates and guidance were initiated to protect people. That is what governments are supposed to do — protect the people, provide them with a safe environment. The government doesn’t run the economy — people do. And people who are sick, or who have to stay home to take care of others, can’t be there to work or to buy. If we want our country to get back on track, we need to quit treating this virus and all its variations as if it is a political issue. It is both a medical and an economic issue and as such affects us all.

I saw people I haven’t seen for two years and we were all vaxxed. The way it is going Covid will be like the annual flu. Better get used to it!

You/we can thank trump and his ilk for encouraging such a large pool of unvaccinated to spread this latest variant.

It would help things if every one would just stay home. Why they are getting on cruise ships is beyond insanity.

Airlines cancelled thousands of flights because covid wiped out the crew.
People aren’t paying attention, expect a huge spike in covid soon.
