I saw it as a PSA, mildly humorous. These are the political “comics” after all, not necessarily meant to amuse, but at least to provoke thought and discussion. But then, I try to see humor in most things.

@Concretionist is right, Gorrell making a ‘gag’ out of this is clearly meant to signal to his readers that they are free to continue to think that Covid safety measures are a joke, and also act as something he can point to and say “see I do support vaccines”. This is the GOP way.

He cannot just clearly tell his audience to get vaccinated or a booster or to wear masks, because he cannot stray from the sacred right-wing talking points. So people will continue to die and businesses will continue to suffer.

I’m getting tested this afternoon and my immunocompromised brother got tested a few days ago. Neither of us think we have Covid, but we just want to make sure we don’t have it before we all get together on Xmas. When I spoke with my brother yesterday, I found that my nephew in NYC got Covid! Fortunately, he’s asymptomatic. So, he will have to self quarantine for several days meaning he won’t be celebrating Xmas with his family. I texted him my support and I know he’ll be OK. Today, our mayor, Muriel Bowser, reinstated the indoor mask mandate until at least January 31st 2022. While we’re all hoping the national rise of new cases crests and recedes sooner rather than later (like it had in South Africa and is now happening, at least as I heard, in the UK and Denmark), any effort that’s made to stem the tide of new cases is welcome. It sucks that people in many areas will be back to learning online early in the new year. But, hopefully, 2022 will see things improve. Like the FDA giving full clearance to the new antivirals to treat those who are seriously ill from Covid or vaccines for kids 5 and younger. But the end to this is coming, just not as quickly as we’d like. We can’t bring back the thousands of Americans we’ve lost to this, but we can honor them by not giving in to despair. Happy holidays.
