True thing, that. The second ship had to turn back, and bad weather kept the Mayflower at sea longer than planned. And who would be fool enough to send another (small) ship across the North Atlantic in winter?
The Pilgrims probably thought God was going to provide like the manna given to the Hebrews on their 40 year wanderings (according to the Old Testament). A bunch of city slickers with absolutely zero knowledge of what they were heading into.
