One of the ways to recognize people with a … particular … political leaning is to see whether or not they grok nuance. It’s not fool-proof, but if you also check whether they get puns, you’re likely going to be correct better than 95% of the time.
Wow, Mallett is definitely not as smart as he thinks he is. It shows in comics such as these wherein he tries to address a complicated subject in a simplistic context.
The dinosaur is not oversimplifying. After maybe 300 million “warm” years, the last 2 million years have seen up to seven glacial/interglacial cycles, gradually increasing in severity – ice as thick as 10,000 feet over NYC. Returning our atmosphere to “normal” would most likely see a continuation of these glacial cycles. If you research CO2 levels prior to the last 2 million years, you will discover that civilization has arisen in an abnormal atmosphere.
It wouldn’t be an ice age, just a brief age of cold weather. There is not sufficient thermal energy in the seas to create a new ice age. There won’t be, for another ten to twelve thousand years. Heck, we just had a major water vapor plume from the Gulf of Mexico that couldn’t make it past Arkansas before it began to cool and condense and drop its load.
Can’t say much about this strip. Seems it balances complacency against perceived need for change. But that has always been the main struggle throughout history. Those who want to maintain a certain pattern of life vs those who see change as either a necessity or just something they feel like doing at the time [the most dangerous of the three].
I just watched the original 1956 Japanese version of Rodan. Early on in the film, after the coal mine tunnel flooded, the mine executives wondered where the water came from, as there was no water table in the area. Then one of them mentions that is wad due to global warming. it was discussed in 1956.
Jurassic Park aside, if you’re interested and read up on Mammoth extinction, you’ll see it was mostly related to overhunting by…you guessed it…humans. So reintroduction would just be reestablishing a species we caused the demise of…and introduced back into the permafrost they can help reduce the thawing of that very important environment. It’s a fun and nuanced subject, so YMMV
Meh, I’ve found that complicated or uncomplicated, people will still come up with the same answers (on both sides of things), they just arrive at them differently.

If you don’t have a response to an uncomplicated question, maybe you aren’t ready to tackle the complicated yet.

Climate has been changing for over 18,000 years. Not sure what a little girl or the senile old fool in the White House can do about it.

Such “zombie” recreations could keep the permafrost frozen since that is what they did when they existed. Though artificial means have proven worthy.

Brilliant. This is one of the best Sunday strips.
