The timing of the outage was absolutely random and had NO connection whatsoever to the timing of the revelations that Mark Z. does not give a sh!t about anything but money.
The phrase “corporate responsibility” is proof that with language you can impute the existence of a non-existent thing. Or, as the http protocol would report it: “404 error”.
Seriously: Corporations have bylaws and the good ones pay some attention to behaving as their bylaws require. But you will never be able to find a corporate conscience. The very concept of incorporation means that no individual is ultimately responsible for whatever decision or behavior. No guilt. And the unstated bylaw is “be (more) profitable” … so whatever gets in the way, such as “acting ethical” or “having empathy” will be discarded as soon as it is noticed.
Fakebook is now what big Tobacco was. I can remember when smoking was endlessly promoted as being “cool”. You smoked Marlboro to show you were a rugged male individualist, Virginia Slims for the modern female feminist, other brands arguing how their Tar and Nicotine had the best “taste”. For decades the industry fought tooth and nail successfully against any government controls or any data that their product was indeed addictive and harmful. Smoking was an expression of individual freedom. Too bad the smokers and their second hand breathers would likely have to eventually pay the ultimate price for the privilege. Fakebook promotes outright lies, and encourages groups to coalesce around those lies to increase profits. The consequences be damned. Fakebook is to the mind what tobacco does to the heart and lungs, and can be just as addictive as nicotine. It’s fascinating, and alarming, how they use the old Big Tobacco playbook to further their goal of the bottom line.
I hear people actually got to do something productive for a change!! The irony is FB went on TWITTER to announce that they were working on it. I’m not on Twitter either and don’t care.
I have no skin in this game, but it seems ironic to me that Facebook responded to the revelation that they stopped censoring before Jan. 6, by implementing 100% censorship of their platform.
I don’t think corporate responsibility exists. It’s more the corporate blame game. I would call it the Blame Down Game. Find someone below you to blame, then they find someone below them to blame, etc. Fire people that had nothing to do with your failures. Unless it’s better PR to find someone willing to take a golden parachute worth millions to accept the blame.
As for Facebook, would never had known it was down if the media didn’t have to freak out about it. Worse, come to worse. If you really need to get in touch with someone you can always call them, text them, email them, and yeah there’s a Trump goon holding things up, but you can even write them a letter and post it.

Thanks to SCOTUS, the only rule for business is do whatever it takes to maximize profits, just so long as you don’t get caught doing it….
This is why such site should NOT be run as profit-making enterprises. It SHOULD be run by an ethical non-profit.

People wonder why I don’t have a FB account. I don’t approve of some of their rules, and they don’t enforce the ones I like.

Fortunately I never wanted to be part of the FB infection. Sometimes isolation is the best preventative medicine.

I would shed no tears if both Facebook and Twitter crashed and burned permanently. Both are a cancer to civil society.

The “404” error message means some oaf “accidently” kicked out a plug from it’s outlet.

After several years of increasing FB immersion, I gave it up. Almost better for my health (and sanity) than when I quit smoking.

And the world was a far better place for 6 hours.

Corporation laws are in dire need of a rework with an emphasis on personal responsibility.
