Watched the local news last night and saw Facebook and others had ‘crashed’ for hours . . .(I’m not on Facebook and never will be) it was interesting watching people act as if their world had ended.
I find this very frustrating. I have used Facebook for a long time, mostly keeping up with friends and their activities. Then I discovered some interesting scientific facts relating to my autism and face-blindness… but as I stepped out into this territory, I realized I needed to use basic Internet security activities, realizing that 1. Everyone can post anything, so check out any scientific posting against reliable sources (such as checking medical information against trusted sites, like major universities or hospitals) and 2. Anything I post on the internet is out there, potentially for anyone to see. I’ve been fortunate on Facebook so far by using it as carefully as possible.
Facebook was down yesterday. I thought either hackers, a glitch, or they were doing proactive screening housekeeping in light of the 60 Minutes piece. I had a funny man, fish and bear I was posting that was in limbo for a while. Got me thinking, if they’re installing some software or human interface to vet every post and comment each user makes, probably hold up each item about two weeks and many innocent references (like say breast cancer) would be culled by an ambitious nannybot.

That’s why we need a new Fairness Doctrine and accountability checks for social media and internet sources.

FB doesn’t bother to enforce their TOS unless it suits them.

Trust and respect — for self and others — are no longer an essential part of the US culture, so change is unlikely.

Maybe it’s because I don’t use FB, or the the like, that I felt a bit peaceful when they were down…

Far too many people are too immature to handle the responsibility of the technology.
Case in point, trump.

I would have never known they were down if the media didn’t feel the need to make a story of it.
Businesses that rely on Facebook rather than their own websites, have no pity from me whatsoever.
