Forgive an outsider for asking. If the debt ceiling isn’t increased by Congress does that mean essential workers & members of Congress won’t be paid? The Democrats have 51 votes with the VP’s vote. What’s the problem?

False assertion! “We will support a clean continuing resolution that will prevent a government shutdown,” McConnell said Monday. “We will not provide Republican votes for raising the debt limit.”
