Reminds me of a conversation I had with my wife on our honeymoon.

I visited the tunnels in Cu Chi before they were widened and concreted for the tourists. Even without punji traps it was a harrowing experience.

Was this the inspiration for the old video game Dig Dug?

I served on a submarine with no problem. This I find really scary. People who dive in caves are even scarier to me.

Read this and was think the same thing. Number one, did not have the physique for it and number two, not sure I had the mental toughness for it. My hat is off too those skinny US dudes that crawled into those tunnels to check them out.

Did they clean those punji stake booby traps after the war? No – just like we didn’t take the land mines.

I wonder… How did B. D. get past that trap we saw right in front of him yesterday?

I knew a vet from that era who served as a “Tunnel Rat.” For those of you too young to know what that is, these soldier’s were usually short, wiry, and easily fit themselves into those VC holes when they had to go in and flush em out. Testament as to how good he was is that he made it back. To all that served, in whatever capacity, thanks …

It is good we can laugh at it, but let us never forget it.
