Democrats, good on policy but lousy on messaging and strategy, need to focus the responsibility for any default against the full faith and credit of the United States squarely where it belongs: MITCH McMOSCOW and the TrumpubliQans.
When Trump and McMoscow ran up enormous debts and deficits with corporate welfare and tax giveaways to the few richest elites who already had the most, with NONE OF IT PAID FOR, nevertheless Democrats agreed not to let the nation fall into fiscal default.
Now McMoscow acknowledges that the country cannoot be allowed to slip into economically-catastrophic default but says that it should be Democrats alone who save us because he cannot allow Republicans to vote for increasing the debt ceiling while Democrats are proposing new infrastructure spending (conveniently omitting that, UNLIKE THE TRUMP CORPORATE WELFARE, all of the Democratic proposals are fully paid for).
Fine. Let the Democrats pass it. But no, not only is McMoscow not going to allow any Republican votes to authorize payments, he is going to use FILIBUSTER to block even the Democrats from doing so, an unprecedented act of fiscal sabotage.
What is most disingenuous is that the debt ceiling has NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY NEW DEMOCRATIC PROPOSALS (which are all paid for). This is simply the authorization to pay for expenses VOTED BY REPUBLICANS UNDER TRUMP.
This is the moral equivalent of running up your credit card debt and then refusing to pay the bill when it comes due. And again, McMoscow is refusing to pay for stuff PASSED UNDER TRUMP for which HE and the TrumpubliQans all voted.
Holy Moses! Does Moscow Mitch think ‘parting’ the Country will keep the voters from flooding the election polls? Will it take 40 years for the Republi-CONS to find their way back into Congress? . . . /S
Under the last Occupant, they ran the deficit up by over $7 Trillion, and when that bill came due under Biden, they now don’t want to pay it, blaming the Democrats for their spending spree.
Here we go again. We found out last time that closing down the government is costly. It adds insult to injury. It solves nothing. It’s unnecessary political posturing.
Raising the debt ceiling or not and having a shut down is always blamed on the party in power. The key word is “debt”. That debt goes back over multiple administrations and Congresses with both parties contributing to the problem. It was trump and the republican fault last time we had a shut down. Remember hamberders? Now it will be the fault of Joe and the Incompetents. It is what it is.
BTW, the shut down won’t include essential services so you’ll still get your social security checks, etc. If you need a passport or want to visit a national park, you’ll have to wait. Those non-essential government “workers” will be effected but it’s basically an extra paid vacation as they seem to always get their back pay when the shut down is over. I wonder if much of the media will start running stories of the poor government workers struggling to survive like they did when el trumpo was occupying the White House, or will they go easy on the current occupant?
McConnell was quite clear on the need to raise the debt ceiling when DFT was in office. Now, of course, he’s always been against it. On princip— darn it, my eyes rolled up so far typing that, everything’s gone black.

The GQP has become the party of — nothing. Nothing good, nothing helpful, nothing about honor, nothing about justice, truth or liberty. Nothing.
The scariest part is that they seem to know it and not care when they’re caught doing the things that they now think will keep them in power.
My response to that attitude:
Nothing Doing!

If the fault opens under us, the public must be made to understand whose fault it is.

Republicans don’t care. They must keep their rich donors happy, at any cost to America and to Americans.

Mitch McConnell is a vile person. Every time he is re-elected I am stumped by the oblivious voters in his state.
