Now a poll shows the idea of a document, sometimes called a “passport,” showing proof of vaccination is unpopular with that group as well. Forty-seven percent of Trump voters oppose this type of document, compared with 10% of Biden voters, the survey shows.
To be clear, the federal government has no plans for anything like this. But there are some efforts at the state level and among private institutions to give people the option of getting a document to do things like speed up and simplify travel.
Easing in-person early voting access and requiring photo IDs both have bipartisan majority support. Approval of making early voting easier stands at 89% among Democrats, 68% among independents, and 56% among Republicans. Support for requiring a photo ID to vote stands at 62% among Democrats, 87% among independents, and 91% among Republicans. Only Democrats back making voting by mail easier to do, with 84% supporting this idea compared to just 40% of independents and 26% of Republicans.
More than 2 in 3 Americans (69%) support establishing national guidelines to allow vote-by-mail and in-person early voting in federal elections in every state. Just 25% oppose this idea. Support for establishing national voting guidelines on these issues comes from 92% of Democrats, 63% of independents, and 51% of Republicans.
“The poll contains some seemingly conflicting information on voter access. The bottom line seems to be that most Democrats and Republicans want to take the potential for election results to be questioned off the table. The problem, though, is they aren’t likely to agree on how to get there,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute.
More Americans say voter disenfranchisement (50%) is a major problem in the United States than say the same about voter fraud (37%). Democrats (64%) are more likely than either Republicans (43%) or independents (42%) to see disenfranchisement as being a major problem. Republicans (64%) are more likely than independents (41%) – and both groups are much more likely than Democrats (10%) – to see voter fraud as a major problem.
Kind of for everyone—Show of hands—How many of you eat in restaurants where cockroaches, rats and mice roam the dining area and leave droppings all over the kitchen? Now answer this one—Show of head nods—Should municipal health inspectors be allowed to shut down such a business until the problems are corrected? Showing proof of vaccination keeps the business open; the owner doesn’t have to shut down for days to clean when the health department tracks the contagion to his restaurant.
A perfect example of Rethuglican hypocrisy! They’re for showing IDs if it will help them get a stranglehold on this country and drag it into the pit of fascism. I wonder how many anti-mask and anti-vax bugnuts have no problem wearing seat belts, obeying traffic signals and signs, etc.

Procrustean voter ID laws are pretty much straight racism. Understandable even if noxious.
Opposing vaccinations (and what naturally follows from them) isn’t particularly racist, Seems to be more about orange-nosing… close as I can tell.

Voter ID is just one of many changes the GOP want. Jim Crow wasn’t just one law. There were many used to subjugate people.
