You look adorable honey. At least you won’t have to take a drivers license photo.

Down here in South-Central Texas we are overflowing with shelter dogs, and ever puppies are being euthanized in San Antonio to make room for the newest arrivals. It’s very sad.

In New England they import dogs from the south. I know there are many puppy mills in the Carolinas. They exist because so many responsible people have their animals spayed or neutered it has created a shortage. My Casey, an Aussie Shepard/Great Pyrenees mix came from a No Kill shelter in Alabama. He was adopted from a shelter in southern New Hampshire that regularly transports dogs from the south.

That’s the kind of doggie photos that hyoomans like. Now, do that ol’ puppy eyes trick and we’ll ensure you is adopted.

We got our rescue 7/8. She had been born at the shelter 2 years ago, adopted twice and returned twice. It only took me 4 months and 7 prior apps to petfinder (turned down each time) to be approved by our local humane society (applied on Monday and brought her home on Thursday!). I can say most emphatically that she has her furever home with us. It’s been, and continues to be, a challenge to overcome her trust issues. We’ve always started with puppies, some “rescue” and some AKC, and there is a world of difference adopting a 2-yr old. She is the sweetest, most loving little girl and I know we will break through her issues.

There was one shelter that posted an absolutely hideous photo of a cat. He’d had something on his fur and they had to shave pieces off, he’d been bathed — in water, yet — and he’d been put in a cage, among other things. He was one angry and grumpy kitty. But they had to have a photo of him, so they took one anyway and it came out really badly. So the shelter staff posted it anyway and added words to the photo: “I’m making this face until I get adopted!” And it worked, too. He got adopted quickly.
