Michael Ramirez understands NOTHING of either infrastructure or fiscal responsibility.
Infrastructure? For four years his guy promised “infrastructure week” almost every single week and, in four years, they never even made the slightest motion to doing anything about it. Biden has been in office barely six months and is finalizing a bipartisan bill on hard infrastructure soon to be followed by a budget reconciliation bill that includes human infrastructure. Both bills address the critical elements that lay the foundation for economic growth ahead — building on the first six months in which we have seen a booming recovery from the Trump economic meltdown, capital investment markets closing at all-time highs and the fastest pace of growth in the first six months of a presidency since the New Deal, unprecedented rebounding of lost jobs and reopening businesses
Fiscal responsibility? Ramirez’s guys Trump and the Republicans exploded the annual budget deficits with record reckless spending on drunken parties of corporate welfare and tax giveaways to the few richest elites who already had the most, which DO NOT “TRICKLE DOWN” AND DO NOT PAY FOR THEMSELVES. Never have and never will.
The Biden plans — both the bipartisan bill and the coming human infrastructure bill, are INVESTMENTS. Just like investing capital in a carefully-planned business startup — spending that lays the groundwork for future income that pays for itself many times over — the Biden bills INVEST in the resources for economic growth and the tools to make sure working people have access to both jobs they can fill, the means to perform them and solid middle-class incomes that allow them to create the consumer demand that REALLY fuels economic growth.
In the past 100 years, Republicans have led to repeated economic failure and Democrats have bailed them out.
TrumpubliQans have a lot of nerve lecturing anyone about fiscal responsibility.
And the NATURE of fiscal responsibility is that whatever you want to SPEND, you should be sure to have FUNDING to cover it. The GQP typically avoids any analysis beyond “It’s okay if we do it”… and right wing cartoonists and talking heads seldom agree that the right way to fund things is to actually (shudder) collect taxes even from the obscenely rich.
Conserves like Ramirez think that the only thing the government should do with money is syphon it to the top richest people, not waste in on things the hoi polloi need.
Can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs! TRUE fiscal responsability would take the tax laws back to 1956, when companies paid a correct share of the budget and so did the rich!
LOL, the Republicans have the WORST record about being fiscally responsible. Just look at all the proof for the last 30 or more decades alone.
The spending now will be a drop in the bucket compared and we’ll have safer bridges and better roads for it. Now, keeping things repaired under full on Republican don’t want to do anything leadership, that would give you bridges like the one pictured.
The irony, after the Republicans have approved more than a trillion dollars on wars and on infrastructure on foreign nations with very small positive results!
And you were probably supportive when Trump talked about his infrastructure plan? Oh wait, it was just talk. No bill. No action. Typical Trump BS.
Now, Biden is actually doing something to repair neglected infrastructure and you think it’s a bad idea?
Maybe we should reverse the disastrous 2017 tax reform package. There has been no better example of fiscal irresponsibility than that in the last 10 years.
Considering the gross national debt increased by almost three times under the former guy’s administration, the GQP has the orbs to complain? What did the American public get out of the increased debt? Nothing. At least the money being spent now is going to the benefit of ALL Americans.
Half a century, ago, Mr. Ramirez, there was an advertisement series for Fram automotive filters. The mechanic, holding up a $1.95 oil filter, said, “You can pay me now…” In the background, a tow-truck pulled in with a car on the hook, and the mechanic finished with"…or you can pay me later."
….and so it goes to show you, how previous administrations did NOTHING to fix America…..it’s as simple as that…as “simple” as the last vermin that inhabited the WH! Simple Simon had more brains….
Looks like the remains of every republican administration and guess what? It costs even more to fix and repair, especially when people like Ramirez are complaining and obstructing. It’s not going to fix itself, and it won’t do it for free.
Lately (last 30 years) the GQP talks fiscal responsibility BUT cuts taxes and spends money (Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia…) increasing the debt. Obama reduced the federal load after inheriting the Great Recession from Bush. Biden inherited the even HUGER federal debt load from Trump and the COVID depression. I am concerned that they seem to want to buy their way out of the economic downturn and don’t seem to be seeing the structural inflation that seems to developing. Ask me again in ten years and we’ll know which party has better fiscal creds.
“Human Infrastructure” is another Democrat euphemism for more government feeding troughs. It’s like heroin, and the Dems are the pushers. Get you hooked and you’re theirs for life.
Quit picking on Ramirez, he spend considerable time on the artwork, not so much on the message. Otherwise he could be out there dealing drugs or getting a job as a Faux commentator.
Ha! A political cartoonist with a real job? Make me laugh!
Ramirez obviously has no concept of the fiscal multiplier, the calculation of how much return the economy gets from each government dollar spent. The austerity hawks were calculating a general rule-of-thumb of 0.5, that is 50 cents for each dollar spent. As it turns out, this is true for defense spending, but for spending for support programs that include health, education and housing, the ratio is $1.3 growth/ $1 spent or more. Health in particular can reach close to $3 growth/$1 spent. Are you concerned about the bang for your buck? If so, you had better encourage your congress-people to pass a good infrastructure bill. I have taken this information from “The Body Economic” by Stuckler and Basu in their discussions of the recoveries from the East Asian in the late 1980-90’s and the Great recession of 2009.
It IS fiscal responsibility to do (and pay for) ongoing maintenance so systems that we need every day don’t totally break down. Foolish deniers don’t seem to realize that infrastructure problems cost them money in both lost customers and higher shipping costs (among others)…
Our grandparents and great grandparents paid to pave the country, why should we whine about repairing infrastructure. There is nothing “sexy” about infrastructure, so politicians do what many people do with problems, push it down the road to deal with later — or for politicians, let the next guy deal with it. Even if you don’t care about the potential loss of life or serious injuries if a road or bridge crumbles, the cost of such a massive repair would be significantly more than maintenance — plus there would be court costs and settlements for the victims. Everyone, from the wealthiest to the poorest in this country needs safe roads, bridges, waterways and other systems that keep the country moving. I don’t want to pay any more taxes than I have to, but Infrastructure is something taxes SHOULD pay for.
’Nobody’s ever seen a number like this!’ New data reveals just how bad the Trump economy actually was
Across Trump’s four years in office, the nation recorded its lowest overall rate of GDP growth — at 1.6 percent — since President Herbert Hoover’s administration during the Great Depression, according to a new report from Bloomberg.
All of those above are living in a time & place that they believe is curable of politics & politicians who will never, ever do anything that us not in their own best interest.
