I begin to think we need to have another Constitutional Convention to rectify the anti-democratic bits in our present system. We could start by looking at the changes the Swiss made in their constitution in 1848 for which our constitution was a model. They chucked the Senate part and basically the presidency as an executive. The result is a much more direct democracy.
Well lets be honest – the pot smoker broke a law, it was for possession of marijuana, not smoking it. Sort of akin to arresting someone for possessing a bag of heroin but not for overdosing on it. I freaking loathe marijuana – but to make daily users punished is excessive. The guys with the dope that are selling it are a much different story.
And Treason is a bit much. Most of these morons that stormed the Capital were just pissed. But the real douchetards with zip ties and hell-bent on actually harming members of Congress and staff, that’s a bit different. All should be punished with prison time. But not all are guilty of the same crime necessarily.
But either way, 8 months for that is ridiculous. Though it is a lot more than the looters and rioters that were not “peaceful protestors” will ever get for their crimes over the past year or so. And it’s a felony as I recall. Quite a bit of difference there too.
Interesting thing with how the laws are applied, Little Bobby, Florida anti-riot laws were used against BLM protests but not against the later Cuban expatriates protests. Pick and choose when to apply them? Or just having them ready to use when somebody you don’t like is available?
A White man intentionally used his dead wife to vote for Trump got a lesser sentence than a Black woman who mistakenly voted not realizing the state didn’t allow released felons to vote in elections. I mean why would an American citizen released from prison think they no longer had the right to vote. Perhaps make that part of the briefing by the Parole Officer along with the list of other things you can’t do.

If he had rioted, looted, and set buildings on fire, he wouldn’t have had any jail time!

In america justice is tainted by color.. as well as ethnicity, gender, religion… Heck, I guess it’s just tainted to suit the desired outcome.

A little off topic but I just looked at Clay Jones comic for July 21, 2021. The Pussy Hats were awesome and way funny.
Sadly my magic wand can’t poof all the red hats at trump events into Pussy Hats that say MAGA on them.

You know I smoked a lot of grass
Oh lord I popped a lot of pills
But I never touched nothin
That my spirit could kill
You know the dealer, the dealer is a man
With a lot of grass in his hand
Ah but the pusher is a monster
Good god he’s not a natural man
The dealer, for a nickel lord
He’ll sell you lots of sweet dreams
Ah but the pusher’llruin your body

If he’d been rich and white, then what? A slap on the wrist for ‘experimenting with pot’?
