    Real world it would be different Species of Cicadas. In the Brewster universe I’d say some are just early risers.

    Maybe it’s like a Groundhog thing.

    They wake up, see how much of a pall the current president is casting over the country, and think, stuff that, if I wait another 4 years maybe they’ll have a better one.

    There’s a theory cicadas’ life cycles are large prime numbers so they don’t accidentally sync up with their predators’ life cycles. This prevents any predators from adapting to eating only cicadas.

    There’s the problem. Our cicadas here in east Tennessee hit the snooze alarm. Haven’t seen nor heard one. Disappointed!
