The other half is either self-centered and dumb, or innumerate and unwilling to believe the folks who do the science (so: Dumb). Or (a VERY few of them) with good reason to avoid. Allergies, suppressed immune systems etc.

A lot of the anti vaxxers are now enjoying having Covid. Some are even getting room service from their hospital bed.

The message here is unclear to me. Are the other half not enjoying it because they have covid (sarcasm) or are they enjoying it because getting the vaccine is somehow bad?

I think the CDC finally gave up and decided to let Darwin take over.

People have asked me why I still wear a mask in places like supermarkets. I feel like responding with something like “Why are you wearing shoes?” but I patiently explain that for fully-vaccinated people like myself, there is little danger but with only about 50% of people fully-vaccinated, there is a 50-50 chance that I will encounter someone who is not. Since I can’t ask them to show me their vaccination passport, I don’t know who these people are, so I wear my mask out of respect for their health.

Maybe I should respond with “Show me your vaccination passport, and I’ll decide if it is safe for you if I take off my mask.” It’s a lot shorter answer.

Some did “enjoyed life” without being vaccinated. The others wound up in the ICU, then on a ventilator, then the morgue. Those that did get vaccinated are now enjoying life without the prospect of hospital then the morgue.

All four of my grandparents survived the influenza pandemic of 1918 – 1919. They followed doctors recommendations, which involved wearing masks, avoiding crowded places and even staying inside. They all lived to be over 100. One who did talk about that time said it was just something they had to do. It was either that or catch the flu and possibly die. This pandemic is very similar, even the idiots who don’t follow the science. And like those times, they are dying in their hubris.

That half was carrying on like there was NO pandemic. Some were bullying people wearing masks; others just generally being jerks.

Why aren’t all the anti-maskers and anti-vaccers dead? What is the death rate among anti-mask/vaccine people compared to the general population? Personally I believe in vaccines as I am old enough to remember polio. As a soldier trained in chemical and biological defense I know those silly masks were useless. That was just politicians flexing their muscles. Just as severe rationing was unnecessary in WWII, it was FDR’s way to get Americans behind the war and make them feel like they were contributing.

My HS friend was in a nursing home in KY. When the governor shut the state down they were basically restricted to their rooms, no social interaction, no meals in the cafeteria. All nurses and aides wore gowns and gloves, face masks and face shields. Only one relative per family was allowed to “visit” for fifteen minutes once a month. Actually it was like a prison visit in an isolation ward. My friend and her brother both had to wear masks, gloves and face shields. They were separated by a thick, plexiglass shield, just like in prison. Before and after everything was sanitized. They had to talk through an intercom phone, just like in prison. Her brother said you could hear other residents crying they wanted to see their families and wailing like Bedlam.

Despite all the precautions, nursing homes were hotbeds of Covid and other diseases. My friend died in the home. They said from Covid but I have my doubts. I was able to talk to her on the phone until she was moved to isolation. I used to drive the 4 hours to her nursing home twice a year. I brought her food from a barbecue place for lunch and then from a Japanese steakhouse for supper. I slept in a motel room and brought her breakfast from a local restaurant and lunch from Wendy’s before I had to go. Nursing home food is so bland because of all those who cannot have salt, spices, etc. She really enjoyed the food and talking about old times. Before she got too bad to go (before Covid) I used to take her out to eat.
