He’s not the only one who asks that. Except that most of us use a different intensifier than “HELL”.
It’s Memorial Day weekend. What can we do to honor the folks who fought and died? How about protecting the populace from crazies with automatic weapons as a start? Or at least a START at that.
Here’s a FACT: The highest recorded homicide rate in the USA was in 1981 at 11.1. In 2019 (last year we have full stats) that rate was 5.0.
2018: 5.0
2017 (“Las Vegas Massacre”): 5.4
2016 (Pulse club shooting): 5.4
2015: 5.0
2014: 4.5
2013: 4.6
2012: 4.8
2011: 4.8
2005 (the year after the ban ended): 5.9
2004 (the year the ban ended): 5.5
2003 (the year BEFORE the ban ended): 5.7
2002: 5.6
2001: 4.9
Don’t believe the extremist hype. Homicides rates have been far lower than they were in the 1980s, which was the second deadliest decade since the Depression Era. The 1970s was the worst overall.
The Republican plan is to keep pushing the right to bear arms and block any reasonable measure to control gun ownership and protect the public right bear arms. Force a situation between the extreme gun rights groups. Hoping the pro gun group, rigbt. take out the anti gun group left, while supporting the Republicans. This in conjunction with the restrictive voter laws, would allow the Republicans to forcibly take control of the government. No that would not happen. Would it?
We once got into a screaming match (well, he was screaming at us) with a fellow who believes more guns mean less violence. When I pointed out that Australia has very few handguns and very little gun violence he told me I was wrong, wrong, wrong! He claimed the Australian Olympic team had to leave the country to practice, and I pointed out that there are gun clubs all over the country. Again, I didn’t know what I was talking about.
We had a young woman from France with us, and she left the table and beckoned to me from behind his back. “He frightens me.”
We announced she was suffering from jet lag and walked out of the house. We haven’t seen him since.
Those with a financially conservative take a dim view of the irrational, uncontrolled, gun violence that hurts the economy.
In addition to the burden on taxpayers, individuals, families, and employers bear enormous costs for gun-related violence in America, including $1.7 billion annually in out-of-pocket medical and mental health care costs. Families also experience the loss of $51.2 billion from work loss for victims and perpetrators. Employers pay $528.7 million per year to cover the costs of employee absence due to gun violence.
Cheer up! Texas just passed a law, concealed carry with no permit, buy a gun/rifle and ammo with no license. What could go wrong? Seems like, Texas wants to be the hub of gun trafficking for North America.
If it’s mental illness, then we are the most mentally ill country on the planet based on the numbers. So, from a biological standpoint, Americans are inherently defective.
The National Reactionary Association likes to point out that some cities with strict rules about firearms have high crime rates. But when you can literally cross the street into a suburb with looser rules, make your purchase, and then walk back across the street…..
Waitaminnit, I thought a well-armed society was gonna be a super-polite society. Plus there must now be a whole lotta more “good guys” with guns than the other kind? Where is a “good guy with a gun” when you need one. (What? “Mythical”? What are you, some kinda socialist fascist?)

And Matt Gaetz answers…

He says “This here, me, right here, this is what’s wrong with us!”
I’m paraphrasing, of course.

The Flag should have “NRA”, not “US?”. That would be much more appropriate.
