We need to start showing side-by-side comparisons of what Republicans said and did on or soon after January 6, when THEY were under direct, treasonous attack and what they are saying and doing now. Of course that is too much to expect from the conservative corporate mass media (100% owned by very wealthy elitist corporations and individuals), as they try to appear “neutral” even as one of the two major parties seriously off the rails in a massive train wreck.
On Jan 6, Kevin McCarthy told Trump that his supporters had invaded the Capitol building and begged Trump to issue a public call for them to leave, when Trump replied that “they must be more upset about the election than you are.” A few days later McCarthy blamed Trump for the insurrection. Now McCarthy, who supported years of investigations on Benghazi, does not want the attempted overthrow of the government even investigated.
After the violent terrorist insurrection, Mitch McConnell voted to acquit Trump of an impeachment charge for instigating the riot, but afterwards said that Trump was responsible, but that impeachment was not necessary because Trump was already out of office, also noting that civil and criminal actions could be invoked. Now McConnell joins McCarthy in cowardly obeisance to Trump’s demands that they reject an investigation.
On Jan 6, Rep Andrew Clyde (R-GA) was on the House floor. Photos show him cowering in fear as the Trump mob tried to break down the door and helping barricade the door against the violent terrorists. Now Rep Clyde is calling the violent terrorists “normal tourists” who stayed between the stanchions and ropes despite videos of wild mobs breaking windows, causing massive vandalism, defecating and urinating on the carpets and breaking into offices stealing computers, papers and furniture. He is lying. Rep Clyde was there. He knows what happened. He cowered in terror and helped barricade the door. This is GASLIGHTING ON STEROIDS.
I heard today that mike pence has a brother in the House. He voted against the investigation. Ah, brotherly love trumped by twice impeached treasonous sleazebag love.
I would say citizens need to inundate their senators with messages that a 1/06/21 commitee be formed but, unfortunately, it’s useless. In my state, California, the senators are already on board and in the “Trump” states the senators are too afraid of losing power to take a moral stance.
did I hear somewhere that the investigations may still continue but under a different profile or form? Can anyone verify that? Or are we stuck having to depend solely on the courts of New York to force the end of him??
Get serious folk.. why would anyone endorse an investigation that would shine a light on your own participation. Be like asking a tax cheat if he/she would “mind” being investigated for cheating.. Bet a doughnut the answer would be a resounding.. no.
We need a probe to just like the Benghazi probe, but in this case it would have more Democrats than Republicans. This will never happen because Democrats think they can still bargain with Republicans. That is not possible with with todays congressional make up. All you have to do is realize how many support the lie that the election was stolen. Right now the Democrats are are in charge, the need to act like it. All they have to do is think of what would happen with the Republicans in charge. Trump as leader of the country again??
Mitch doesn’t want an insurrection commission? Then make him stand there on the Senate floor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, telling us why. Don’t just let him get away with saying “I’d have to filibuster that”, make him do it! And insist that there be a quorum present to hear him try to explain why. No quorum present, immediate vote. No debate, immediate vote. This “gentleman’s agreement” that he can just say he’s going to filibuster and everybody else backs off is based on the utterly fallacious idea that he’s a gentleman. He’s not, and the idiotic policies based on the stupid assumption that he is, or that he’s at all dedicated to fair play, have got to come to a screeching halt. If he wants to filibuster, MAKE HIM ACTUALLY DO IT!
The insane pervert (to be as charitable as possible), Rep. Andrew Clyde (Fascist, Georgia) was caught on video barricading himself safely away from the mob of traitors who were chanting “Hang Mike Pence!” (They weren’t chanting “Hang Andrew Clyde” because they could not have picked him out of a police lineup.)
Sorry (but not much) for re-posting my song parody, but I’m hoping it MIGHT could change a few minds, and civilize a few people up (but I’m not hoping MUCH……..) And here we go:
My camera had caught the ravings of that madman, Trump
Who told a mob of Judases “Just jump when I say jump!”
And their collective intellect is just a sewage dump
The way they carried on!
Never glory for those haters
Never glory for those traitors
Lock ’em up until much laters
The way they carried on!
They attaced our sacred Capitol like locusts run amok
While patriots throughout the land could only stare in shock
Yes, each and every Judas there deserves a harsh cell-block
I see the imbecile Montana Swill is at it again. (And I was SO very hoping he was back on his meds…….) Nobody is denying that a FRACTION of the protests for social justice (and, you know, in FAVOR of the ideals of our country) turned violent. So, yes, they should be investigated. But the mob of traitors incited by the head traitor, one Donald John Trump, was attempting to over-throw our democracy. If that isn’t investigated, and the guilty heads don’t roll, then we don’t have over-much OF a democracy, now, do we? (And as the wise philosopher Stephen Colbert pointed out, if you can’t investigate one crime without investigating all crimes, damn few crimes will be solved.)
Hypocrisy and lies are the default settings, the established standard, and explicit practice of the Republican party. No one should be surprised at this by now. Everyone should be waving placards reading “GOP: lies and hypocrisy—standard practice.” And ignorance, let’s not forget the GOP’s persistently proud ignorance.
I wish Republicans would choose a different animal. Elephants are intelligent, social and usually don’t harm people unless the people harm them first. Hippos are big and dangerous, and don’t have a lot of the attractive features of the elephant.
The best part of McCarthy’s betrayal is that it shows President Biden what his word is worth! Bipartisan talks never involve snakes that turn themselve inside out to instead of keeping their word. There is no one in Republican leadership that can be trusted!
There was no riot or insurrection at the Capitol on January 6. Why even the wooden evangelical dummy’s brother voted against a balanced bipartisan investigation into the energetic exchange of pseudo-ideas in the legislative digs. The window just broke of its own accord. What? Those doodads and furnishings being carried out? Someone told us, we could take souvenirs home with us. It’s good that The Repulsican Crime Family and its MAGAt followers have such a respect for law and order.
I got a bit Godwin-y with MT up there. But I’m not apologizing and I’m not deleting it. The Republicans cannot be allowed to gaslight an entire country.

What if they had finally been able to get to Mike and do the heinous deed? Would it still have been just a family visit to the Capitol?

The GOP has grown into the most disturbing political entities in the US today. Trump and his MAGAts are a symptom, not the disease.
