My little guy (pictured) was dumped somewhere before the animal control people found him. Thankfully he seemed not too worse for wear, but it took two years before he was ok getting in a car.
The ranch where I kept my horse in Oregon’s Willamette valley was a magnet for dumped pets—the owners had one dog of their own (inherited from a deceased parent) and 5 more which had been dumped on the side of the road, plus a varying number of cats acquired the same way … plus one yellow (former) tomcat that I found in town limping on a badly broken leg. Once he’d recovered from his surgery, I brought him out to the ranch where he immediately became a favorite of all 6 dogs!
My Fox Terrier, Mykei, was returned to the same shelter 3 times before we found each other. That was over 30 years ago. A few years after I adopted Mykei, I ran into the Hannah Kenny, the woman who ran the shelter, in a pet store. Hannah asked me if I still had the little terrier she called “Alice”. Of course I still had my sweet girl! She was my first dog, and was with me 12 years wonderful, memorable years. After we lost Mykei to cancer, we adopted a family of 3 long haired Chihuahuas ~ Spike and his half-brother, Skye, and Spike’s mother, Jewel. They were first raised by their breeder, who kept these 3 as her own. All eventually had health problems. With Spike and Jewel, it was heart disease, and diabetes took sweet little Skye.
