I’ve just been looking at Sunday’s strip again. I see that my comment about learning the word “bahoochie” from comic strips in Scottish newspaper The Sunday Post was very popular and had thirteen likes.
I followed it with an example of the word “bahoochie” in a Sunday Post strip from about three years ago. Someone said that he/she didn’t remember that strip so I’ll give some more detail about it.
Pa Broon was staying in bed but kept being disturbed by members of the Broon family despite him saying he wanted a long lie-in for the weekend. When he finally got up, he slipped up on a skateboard belonging to his twin sons and doing a pratfall.
The last panel showed Pa back in bed with a doctor lifting up the covers and examining Pa’s very sore butt.
“Tut! Tut! Mr Broon. That’s an awfy bruised bahoochie ye’ve got. Ye’ll be in bed for a week.”
“Help ma boab!”
“Never mind, Pa. Ye said ye wanted a long lie-in!”
I remember when I had KP duty in Marine Boot Camp. We had to get up, way before everyone else. I thought that was the end of it…but then, I was made a cook when I went to Nam in ‘68.
