Facebook has no interest at all in doing something that’s moral or even legal. They do whatever works to maximize profit for stockholders. If that happens to mean following the law, well, that’s okay. If that happens to mean restricting postings somehow, well, that’s okay.

Note that Facebook didn’t invent  A-B testing but they are way  on board with using it to see what will maximize their profit. I would be STUNNED if they weren’t doing that sort of variation testing to see whether their profits go up when the block folks like you… or maybe folks like me … or folks my Qanon neighbor… or folks who post too many / too few kitty pictures.

Ted, you don’t make it clear whether you believe FB should have actual rules that are fair and also understandable and that are enforced with consistency,

    or

you believe FB should not be moderated at all.

    .

Or maybe you’re advocating something else, but what?

The right is still the leading source of news posts in FB. The former guy may be banned from social media, yet still manages to be heard regularly. Meanwhile, Ted still has his gig with Sputnik International, Russia’s version of the Voice of America. https://sputniknews.com/docs/about/index.html https://sputniknews.com/columnists/202104301082768621-bidens-left-feint/

Facebook and social media are responsible for the degeneration of civilization. It’s too late to turn back and correct it. Luckily, we have global warming so it should be over soon.

If FaceBook and YouTube are completely unfettered from any political and social decency standards, will we see such things as “WFBM: World’s Funniest Bowel Movements,” or “Torture Video of the Week”? I predict a lot of people would, out of curiosity click on at least once; and many might stay out of sick fascination with those and other gross things.

Personally, I don’t see too flimsy a connection between what we normally think of pornography and the political porn that Trump and his sycophants spew. Both are produced by pimps and prostitutes, political or otherwise. There is such a word as “pornocracy,” and with enough politically profligate followers — men and women — Trumpists are on their way to establish it.

Social media are correct to block that way. Come on, just because there are an accepted 256 shades of gray doesn’t mean black and white don’t exist. (—

BUT…Facebook, Twitter, and all the other sites where you can pretend you matter will allow up to 10,000 verified lies before slapping your wrist. Republicans, of course, are different: they’ll remove you from positions of authority for telling the truth. Ask Liz Cheney.

GoComics has become exactly like facebook and twitter. If you are a conservative voice, and the moderators (snick) do not agree with what you say, then you are suspended indefinitely. If a liberal promotes the death of a living president, then they get a slap on the hand and a short (maybe) suspension.

I am currently doing 30 days in Facebook prison because I reposted an anti vaxer meme that I found on Facebook. The computer busted me for not following community standards for posting on Facebook something that I found on Facebook.

Every site that allows interaction has a TERMS and Conditions" clause. Break the rules you get dealt with as forewarned. If you are child-like you whine and cry about it. ’Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time’

The 1st Amendment starts with “Congress shall make no law…”. It does NOT start with “Private citizens and businesses shall make no rule…”. If you expect the Constitution to protect your “right” to abuse web applications owned by private business, you’re barking up the wrong tree.

Hey-Zeus Key-riste on a crutch, Theodore! Aren’t you a professional member of the Fourth Estate? You should be aware that Facebook is a private company, not a government agency. If you don’t comply with the terms of service, you can be de-platformed. Not even being dropped by the Los Angeles Times constitutes censorship. It’s when the government says “Frederick Theodore Rall, III’s cartoons are so offensive to the sensibilities of the community that they can no longer be published,” that is censorship.

LMAO! Facebook is a private entity and can do whatever they want as long as it’s not violating federal and state laws. Same goes for Twitter, YouTube, and other cyberspace entities. Note: Independent and non-MSM personalities have been saying this for years as they watch themselves de-platformed and de-monetized in order to protect corporate media, political parties, and corporate interests. So boo f-ing hoo. People who depend on partisan social media outlets to stay informed is why we live in an “Idiocracy” today.

As long as they don’t ban you it’s hunky dory, that is the point Ted is trying to make I think. I caught a fb warning for bullying a meme ! You must respect a system that has terms & conditions that 99.9999% of users never read and 90% of those who do don’t have the back round to fully understand. Reminds me of the fast talk at the end of radio car ads.

When you decide to join up with the likes of white nazionalists, Trump, or Alex Jones, I will send Zuckerberg a valentine if he “deplatformed” you. Still waiting for those worthies to launch their own social networking empire. 8kun not have enough reach for them?

Well said Mr. Rall. What the defenders of Facebook, twitter and the like is the fact of the massive power these platforms have in the world today and therefore they must be regulated, so they will not eventually become more powerful than national governments. Thankfully nations are well on the way to curbing the social platforms power.

Suspending someone from Facebook for 30 days because they have been posting false information or promoting violence is justified; there are plenty of people that I see posting lies on a regular basis and the only ones I’ve seen that complain about being suspended are those that intentionally spread lies by RE-posting things that were already tagged as false by Facebook’s fact-checkers and their post encourages others to spread those lies.

Bans on people like Trump and Alex Jones came after MANY warnings. Now that Trump has been banned from social media, there are far more voices that are heard. When Trump would post something on T or FB, his minions would post so many “love letters” that anyone trying to fact-check or refute Trump would get lost.

This is the logic of All dogs have 4 legs, cats have 4 legs, therefore cats are dogs.

In this case, Criminal people and groups are banned from Facebook for posting things that are basically criminal, therefore if I post a thing, they will ban me.

You might as well say Well the police arrested someone for committing a crime, maybe they will arrest me for not committing a crime.
