John Nash, the person A Beautiful Mind was based on, had schizophrenia/multiple personality disorder. When asked why he listened to the voices, he said pretty much the same thing: they gave him some of his best ideas. Alma Deutscher, a British classical music prodigy, is possibly on a par with Mozart (not kidding; look up the 60 Minutes special on her; first piano sonata at 6; her opera Cinderella premiered when she was twelve; debuted at Carnegie Hall at 14). When she was little (before 10 years old or so), had a number of imaginary friends who helped her compose in different styles. Now that she’s 16, she realizes that the friends were only imaginary, and continues to compose wonderful music.
