I will bet that the dairy farm is a conventional farm with pasture raised cows and not one of those horrid factory dairy farms with cows never going outdoors as well as being subjected to lactation inducing hormones and growth chemicals. Those poor animals lead a much shorter than normal life. Animal abuse and the liquid manure slurry sprayed on fields is much worse than the idyllic dairy farm and “cow pies”.
That ounce of gold could buy a lot of earthworms to enrich the average yard or green area. There would be healthier soil and reduced need water. There would be greater benefit to the soil and small mammals, insects, butterflies, bees, and birds.
But most folks seem to think that golf-green neatness, heavily dosed with herbicide and pesticide is a better way to go. I disagree. Curb appeal has not proved that its need for such makes life better, but pushed by realtors and naturally companies which produce the products, it has become the norm for HOA’s et alia.
I stopped with the -cides years ago. I let the lawn grow for weeks in spring so that flowering greenery reseeds before I mow. I go by the old saw that a weed is just a flower someone didn’t want there.
Of course, the make the HOA happy, the very small front yard gets the prom treatment – without the poisons – but the backyard is busy all year long with birds at the feeders, new colors, and lots of butterflies.
Yeah, I know. I continue an old battle, but there are generations of proof in what I do. I’m good with that.
My son and his friend were going fishing, so the night before, after dark, we went out and gathered some night crawlers. His friend lived about 10 miles away and in his late thirties, asked if next time he was planning on going fishing, if he could come to our place to pick worms. Apparently, he didn’t know they were also in his yard..

Gold is malleable, not ductile. It cannot be stretched…it can be pounded into extremely thin sheets that a breath can move. Platinum is ductile. An ounce of platinum can be stretched into a wire so thin that it can be wrapped around the earth.
