2020-01-07 • Presidential Daily Brief: “Analysts concluded [coronavirus] could be a cataclysmic event.” • Trump did nothing.
2020-03-11 • World Health Organization declares a global pandemic.
2020-04-15 • While continuing to lie about the pandemic, in a fit of infantile petulance at being publicly contradicted, Trump suspends US funding of WHO.
2021-03-11 • US coronavirus deaths: 542,642 (61 weeks after PDB; 8896/week)
4% of the world’s population; 25% of its COVID deaths.
For comparison …
1941-12-07 • Pearl Harbor attack: 2,403
2001-09-11 • terrorist attacks: 2,977 (5 weeks after PDB warned Bush about it)
Korean War (33,686) + Vietnam War (58,220) + Afghan War (7,970): 99,876
I’m afraid that the illustration depicted, while no longer germane to the vast majority of Americans, is still a factor (however minor) in American politics, and so cannot be simply dismissed.
As a citizen of the Southwest, I can attest to the fact that, while it’s a good idea to leave things like rattlesnakes and scorpions alone – it’s NEVER a good idea to forget that they are there!
As much as I get it as despise the symbols. I do not want them completely out of sight. Because we can forget what happened. Then repeat the evil. It is like the confederate statues remove them but put them in a museum as a reminder. Some things we need to remind people of the misuse of symbols. Also, I like to look back and see the progress we made.
I never liked it when TBS censored Bugs Bunny cartoons. I remember one that they just cut off the joke at the end. That was put there to leave the audience laughing. It just made no sense the way they did that.
The longer his image is kept in circulation, the longer his acolytes will continue to keep him relevant. We all need to stop paying him any attention. Don’t feed to ego!
Great strip (and punchline)! Good news: you can keep him (although I fervently await the day when his presence is no longer a blip on your radar). The difference between him and the ones from the past is that they were treated as acceptable or honorable. Since you know and represent the former guy as something to not emulate, he can still exist in your cartoons as an example of how NOT to behave.
Every time now I see a photo of el Douch on the news, I recoil in horror. I had started to forget what a horrible thing it was to see that foul mug multiple times and places a day before he lost the election.
I’ve often wondered if the same people who voted for Li’l Donnie are the same people who like that show about boring idiots giving roses to prostitutes……….
Lets just get right to it. Pepe LePew was a delusional lothario who always got his comeuppance. Go ahead and cancel him if you think it’s necessary but I’m going to miss him.

I’m afraid we don’t have any choice — unfortunately, this racist, sexist ear worm will be with us for a while yet.

There’s a difference between the obvious satirical target and a character that’s presented as normal.

I don’t know about you, but I’m enjoying all the artwork Jim Carrey produces on social media.
