That first one may be the first gold comic I’ve ever laughed at.

Someone wanna break down the third one for me though? Bozo is just helping those last few packages to the ground?

    1. Too bad there was no GPS balls those days, eh, Bozo. Who needs golf clubs to play golf when you got an umbrella, eh, umbrella guy.

    2. Whatever he does, Bozo’s a one man army.

    3. Bozo always glad to help strangers.

The possibility that he might have actually sunk a ball never occurred to him. Well, it had never happened before!

1 Did people use to drive off from the previous green?

2 Not just the president, he’s also a client.

3 Couldn’t just hang around waiting for the other shoes to drop.

Hmm….. for me, the underlying themes of our three sets of panels all hover around the philosophical ideas of the meaning of “success” . According to the beloved Merriam-Webster, “success” can be defined in three different manners:

1a: degree or measure of succeeding & 1b: favorable or desired outcome also : the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence

    2 :one that succeeds

    3 (arcane): outcome, result

Bozo has a variety of ways of presenting success in his activities across the three sets of panels:

    1. Here Bozo is portraying the “Everyman” here in that the success he is aiming for is simply that of doing a reasonably adequate job. This is akin to how most of us work through our day…. we do not expect accolades, nor glamor, nor fame. But in this case, the fact that Bozo is not even imagining a more vivid and wild level of success than is simply adequate… he is unable to see the golf ball, nor experience the thrill of a “hole in one”. This can be a metaphor for our own lives… do we sometimes shortchange ourselves in the day-to-day by not allowing ourselves to dream more vividly of our own possibilities of success ?

    2. In these panels, we see Bozo in one of his finest moments of success . By creating the employment agency business that he has done, he is now able to find an array of different employment opportunities for himself. As Bozo is very much a man who could be classified as a “jack of all trades” his agency is a grand success for him in that he can explore gainfully a variety of different career paths until he finds his favorite. This is a far more economically wiser level of success than are many unpaid internships that folks often work through on their way up the ladder.

    3. In the final panels, we see Bozo trying to foster success in another fellow who is attempting to strive in his own way….

….Although potentially mistaken, Bozo observes the vested fellow depositing his packages on the sidewalk, the pile of boxes seems reasonably neat and tidy (although many could stack them more symmetrically). But, Bozo looks more fully at the seen before him, and notices that the fellow forgot to deposit a few packages into the pile, meaning the fellow would ultimately fail . So, with graciousness and good will, Bozo helps the fellow out so that his pile may be complete…. and helps to attain a true success for the fellow.
