Next time Joe, you may want to be specific about what you mean by “a few things”!

Let them choose at least a few favorite toys to keep, even if they don’t play with them any more and the twins don’t want them. I know there are a few toys I wish I’d kept even though I’d stopped playing with them. Once they’re gone, you can’t get them back.

Some of my favorite toys had belonged to my older brothers first

A few of them may not have been voluntary contributions

I gave a toy to my next door neighbor’s child that used to belong to my granddaughter. She hadn’t played with it in years. After I gave it away, she was upset about it. Go figure!

I go into those consignment stores and see toys I forgot I once had…or even existed. Like metal wind-up toys. Or board games no longer made. Building blocks, Erector sets with actual metal parts. World globes with nations or borders that no longer exist (USSR, French Equatorial Africa, No Pakistan, Danish West Indies, etc.) Nostalgia City.

I get that this is just a comic, but IRL I think that’s a terrible thing to do to a child. You’re telling them that anything given to them (or purchased out of their allowance!) is not really theirs, you own it and you can and will take it away at any time. I’m glad the kids figured out a loophole.

Is that an Abacus in Panel One? They still make those?

When my daughter was younger and was pestering us for more stuffed animals, we told her she had to store (or donate) the equivalent number of her current stuffed animals. I think we said she could have only ten in her room at a time because her room was so tiny. If she was missing (emotionally) one of her older animals, she could exchange one of her current one’s for it. Worked pretty well. She is now 37 and can have any and all she wants to buy. Plus she also has all her old ones that she had put in storage.

Joe’s mom would say the comma after Tommi should be a semi-colon (or a colon).
