Wild turkeys can get very nasty when they want too. They are a fairly large bird who nests on the ground. And they will defend those nest from any wild nest robbers. So a pint sized squirrel has no chance vs turkey in a fight over top billing rights.
Wild turkeys are fantastic flyers and they can run almost as fast as they can fly. Bus driver story: On an early AM run inside a well-to-do urban neighborhood- 3 turkeys hot-footed it across the road ahead of my bus- the straggler behind them just flew across!!
Wild turkeys are clever enough that Benjamin Franklin wanted them as the national bird, instead of the eagle. Their domestic cousins, however, are dumb enough to drown in a rainstorm.
