Apparently it was named after Harald Bluetooth, a 10th century Danish king.

The short version is the developer proposed the name as he was reading a historical novel that included 10th century Danish King Harald Bluetooth (Anglicised) who united Danish tribes into one kingdom.

I’d be curious how the kid happened to have a blue tooth. I’ve seen gold from a cap. Or grey from decay. Hey! I’m a poet and I didn’t know it!

Origin of the Bluetooth Name · Uniting Denmark and Norway in 958. · His dead tooth, which was a dark blue/grey color, and earned him the nickname Bluetooth.
