No warrant? (Remember what happened to Dirty Harry!)

Ka-Rip blows the case with an illegal search of a suspect’s car!

R.J. is the acting sheriff. Rip is acting as R.J.’s proxy. Accordingly, Rip is required to follow the same rules as R.J., which prohibit warrant-less searches of private property. The remedy is the exclusion at trial of any evidence uncovered in the illegal search.

If this was not the case, every police department would have a goon squad of private citizens doing the dirty work for them.

Rip, pal, you’re going about this all wrong. You need to get treebeard, there, to start something. Then you’ll have probable cause…maybe.

Let’s go all red yarn and push-pins. Oak-Tree’s truck has a recently fired rifle in it. Oak-Tree was the star of the high school football team the late sheriff kept betting heavily on. There is an unidentified female voice threatening violence on the late sheriff’s voicemail. Can Oak-Tree’s wife/girlfriend account for her whereabouts?

Their only hope is to bash Rip over the back of the head with something blunt and heavy.
