If I made a plaque of every saying my Mother or Grandmother said often enough it would cover every wall of my house. Many I still use to this day. My Mother’s are the ones I remember and use the most. One of my favs of my German Grandmother that I use on the cats and dog is “RAUS MIT DIR” which in english means “OUT WITH YOU.” We lived with she and my Grandfather for many years when I was young as my Mother worked outside the house and they were saving to buy a house. She used this saying frequently to shoo my brother and I out from under her feet.
One of my favs from my Mother was “You’ll Live in Hopes and Die in Dispare” which was most often used to respond to our incessant begging for something we just had to have at the moment. Ah, the good old days :-)
