Thank you Brian for your well done, educational ‘comic’ strip. Over the past years of turmoil I have looked to your strip for context and the comfort of knowing that we are not alone. Please keep it up.
So… some members and supporters of the “Party of Lincoln” somehow are STILL endorsing the actions of the TRAITORS TO AMERICA that were pictured WAVING THE FLAG OF THE CONFEDERACY, the people who FOUGHT AGAINST LINCOLN’S AMERICA, inside The Capitol Building. I’d LOVE to hear their justification for THAT!
On second thought… No, I wouldn’t, since I have an EXTREMELY low tolerance for treason mixed with Right-wingnut Fascist GARBAGE!
People of good will already automatically reject and condemn violence in all its forms. We break from this when self-preservation is at stake.
D.J. Trump, whom you fervently supported for years, has incited violence from ‘his’ public- and the police and the military, scores of times.
Clearly, you are angling for condemnation of all public demonstrations / protests that coincide with any violence. Gotta call bulls#it on that.
If the ‘organizers’ legal permit, intent, and provable actions are non-violent [if there be no incitement to violence], then we should enthusiastically encourage more demonstrating from the people. It’s the American Way.
Using my Panda Logic, it seems brian supports t$$$p having continued access to twitter.
Maybe the next time the crud whips up the mob, they’d really do some damage.
Taking the soapbox away from dangerous individuals is a proper and reasonable act. The difficulty must be in deciding who should be shut off. With t$$$p’s recent behaviour, the decision was obviously easy.
Permitting people in office to lie and misrepresent facts is what brought us here, via Trump and his supporters. It’s time to start calling liars liars and calling out misrepresentations when they happen. Republicans in office are already trying to say that the attack on the Capitol “wasn’t so bad” and that we need to “understand” the perps. BS. They need to be exposed, tried, and where appropriate, punished. Use the media to expose all of these people. Play fair, but play hard. No more Democratic mercy. The Trumper recipients of tolerance and mercy just believe that they have outsmarted the merciful and can continue their crimes.
As an (foreign) observer of the events of January 6 2021, I am dismayed that a mob who objected to the legitimacy of the US Constitution granting the legal proceedings occurring that day in the Capitol, are now using the 1st Amendment of that same Constitution to voice their displeasure at losing access to twitter. This seems hypocrisy at it worst.
It was legitimately a coup attempt. There were armed individuals roaming the halls of congress looking to take hostages or worse. This was planned and coordinated.
Trump was absolutely at the head of the coup. He refused to send the national guard to protect members of congress and in fact its been reported that he mulled over sending them as backup to his supporters.
Why Republicans are refusing to remove him from power and arrest him at this moment is the greatest failure of our democracy. I can only imagine it’s that they are complicit in this attempt. They failed to succeed so most all started to feign that they care about democracy again by not objecting to the certification of electoral votes.
Some have rightly pointed out that the trial of Jefferson Davis never officially went forward as he was granted amnesty. The source of today’s comic actually comes from witness testimony of the Lincoln assassination trial.
This humble cartoonist regrets the error (but not of calling Trump a Confederate traitor)

This thread of tweets is lifted from witness testimony for the prosecution of the trial of Jefferson Davis in 1868.
P.S. I know it’s not the official flag.

Booth’s gang intended to assassinate other top administration officials along with Lincoln, but all except Booth botched their missions.

If it had come down this way, we might have only had “The Civil Trial between The States”.
