The first time my younger daughter got straight A’s on her report card, she told me, “My report card is screaming at me! AAAAAAA!”

A++++ on academic subjects, D—— on maturity.

When I was a kid, I had to get EVERY question right and would argue about any I got wrong. It was annoying for my teachers and students, for sure. Thank God, I grew out of it. Either that or the brutal beatings would’ve continued.

Jason needs to be put into an accelarated learning program. If nothing else, he’d be too busy to be such an a**hole.

Not so when my As came in. No one was happy for me, not even me. Others saw it as an affront to those who didn’t do as well, worrying more about their feelings. And, since I was expected to do well, I took no pleasure in simply meeting expectations. Nope, not even my family showed any pleasure, just renewed expectations for next time (and a warning not to show it to my brothers, who didn’t do as well). When you know you routinely do a lot better than everyone else you do not take joy in it. You just keep doing it. That’s how it was for me, anyway.
