Composed in 1883. US population about 55 million. 38 states and 10 territories (Hawaii still an independent kingdom). The official US govt “Indian Policy” was “ remove and relocate.” We needed Europeans to fill the recently vacated lands. If anyone doesn’t understand “remove and relocate” look up Trail of Tears. Now leaving for undisclosed location.
People often fail to recognize that the Statue of Liberty is France’s recognition not only of the centennial of the American Revolution but also, and in large part, of the recent abolition of slavery in the USA. (The idea for donating a statue originated with a French abolitionist, at the end of the Civil War.) The abolution of slavery is represented by a chain and broken shackle at Liberty’s feet, but they’re hard to see from ground level.

No need to apologize Mr. Cavna. Lazarus and Shultz would approve I’m sure.

You should license it as a Christmas card. Or a historical remnant. In any event, Great work. You made my day.
