I should have known. My mom was a lousy cook, but she could bake. But it didn’t make up for the days she didn’t bake.

We don’t do “carryout” at my house! We do DELIVERY instead!! All I have to say is my name and they know exactly where to “deliver!!”

My mom would make collard greens with potatoes and ham hocks. As a kid I always thought it was an old recipe passed down the family from Europe. Later I found out her neighbors in the U.S. taught that recipe to my mom (a widow at the time) as a way of surviving the depression. I also learned to harvest young mustard greens from the empty city lots in the spring. Not sure that’s a good idea now.

The following is not a true statement.

My wife’s cooking is so bad, we have carryout every night. She cooks, we retch, and I carry it out to the trash.

the best thing that I make is reservations – and that isn’t an option these days.

When my wife and I were dating she made lasagna for a meal. It tasted fine and everything, but my first thought was that I was going to have to marry her and show her the right way to make lasagna. The first words out of my mouth were, “Cottage cheese? It’s supposed to be Ricotta cheese."

She still uses cottage cheese in her lasagna, and I have developed a taste for it well enough to choke it down. Seriously though…cottage cheese in lasagna?)

I am surprised that she disclosed it so readily. However, with her limited cooking skills, she probably had no choice, as the food containers were probably out in open in the kitchen anyway…..

I was blessed to have fine cooks on both sides of my family going way back and married a super lady who is an excellent cook and was a self employed seamstress until retirement.

My wife was a great cook. I helped in the kitchen but did not pay much attention to what she was doing. now she’s gone and I struggle in a vain attempt to duplicate her dishes.
