Years ago, our company decided to do a secret Santa Program for intercompany teamwork. We got the accounting department, and I got a guy named “J. Alien”. Never heard of him, went out bought him something for his desk, (requirement was that it be under $10).
Later, at the Xmas part, I got to meet Mr. Alien. I introduced myself and told him that was an unusual name, I had never heard of anyone else with it. He told me he was a refugee from the Ukraine, and when he emigrated to the US – they asked him for his name, and he mistook that for his “Status”, so told the emigration department “Alien”. It stuck.
