Either that team is seriously pathetic or Morton has been sandbagging everyone.

the coach should have been more supporting and had him do more practicing in the different positions.

I’m sure Goldthwait is no Goldschmidt. Let Peter bat.

There IS strategic merit in letting a guy like him bat, he’s clearly short, and short people have a smaller strike zone that the pitcher might not be able to aim for as well. Either the pitcher will miss and he’ll get walked, or the pitcher will have to concentrate on his aim and lose speed, making it easier for the batter to get a hit.

Our Football coach had a policy that if someone came out for football beginning their freshman year and stayed through their senior year, but didn’t play enough the first three years to letter he would make sure that they lettered their senior year. I think we had to play 2 quarters (24 minutes) in a season to letter. We had one guy that did that, and the coach was true to his word. In a normal season we played 8 games which is a total of 384 minutes. So the coach made sure he got his 24 minutes out of those 384. I always thought that was a cool thing the coach did. This was in the 60’s.
