We’re all privileged to be breathing the same air as cats. Visiting here early today as I’m flying to Boston this afternoon. There will still be foster kittens!
I think the spirit of the Orange Menace is in Blackjacks’ body. I was almost asleep last night around 10 when I heard a crash in the kitchen. At first I thought it was just him knocking things off of the fridge door but then figured I should get up and look. It’s a good thing I did. He’d opened a cabinet door and shoved out a brand new jar of jam onto the tile floor.Jam and glass everywhere! (He must have given it a good whack or it would have just fallen onto the granite counter. It was several feet out from the cabinet) It took me about 40 minutes to get it all cleaned up. I had to turn off the lights so I could shine the flashlight over the floor looking for tiny shards. (No vacuuming because Brad was asleep) I left a long note for him and then used rubber bands on the knobs to keep the little hooligan out of the cabinets. Then I spent a long time looking for baby locks online. We had to use them years ago when we had Buckwheat but I didn’t want that kind. I think it was finally around page 40 of 213 that I found some that were acceptable.
The morning, I vacuumed and could hear little bits being sucked up. I have no idea how I missed them.
I don’t know what he was looking for – there’s no open food in there. It’s where I keep new jars of jam, peanut butter, cans of tuna, bottles of cooking oil, my Might Muffins, etc. Why couldn’t he have knocked a tuna can or pudding cut down?
I sent email to Dr Susan about Blackjack and this is what she sent back" (she has a group of foster kittens):
Cats! Blackjack must have been giving telepathic lessons in badness to my foster kittens last night. I put one of those electric radiators in the bathroom with them a couple of days ago when the weather turned cold. It has rocker switches for high, medium, low and a dial numbered from 0 to 9 for how hot to set the unit. I’ve found, over the years of using this for fosters in the bathroom, that medium and #2 work perfectly to keep the room comfortable. There is also a small cat tree in the room with them which sits against the wall by the door. This morning when I opened the door to the room – whew! It felt like 100 degrees in there and all the lights were on – lights over the mirror, in the shower. and the overhead light.( I leave only a plug in night light on for them,) THe radiator dial had been turned up to 9. I realized the cat tree sat under the wall switches for the lights. Those kittens must have figured out how to work the switches and the dial. I turned off the radiator and the lights. Little devil children. I figured removing the toilet paper from the dispenser made the room kitten-proof. Not good enough.
Me again: I think the Halloween goblin kitties are afoot.
I used to know the most adorable mini schauzer. Augie was owned by my piano teacher, he always came to the door excited when I came and would sit by my feet if I wasn’t using the pedals. If my three cats would allow I always thought I’d get a schauzer mix.
Looks like Catland’s border security leaves something to be desired. Looks like Chesney will have to find another way to get fifty cents. On another note, saw a robin, three chickadees, and two finches while out walking today. I also saw a squirrel outside. Quite an active little critter.
I caught sight of the small gray cat today…again as I opened the front door to go out, it hopped off the picnic table and headed down the stairs to the mule stall. But lately so much food has been disappearing, I suspect there may be more than one extra kitty coming to eat crunchies. Hallie, my regular, never eats much (because she has a house next door to eat at too). I guess I will have to set up a game cam and see who the visitors are. In other news, I went to the Toyota dealer for an 11:30 appointment for an oil change. No one who worked there was wearing a mask, and just a hand full of customers were wearing masks. I was a nervous wreck….AND it took them two hours to do the oil change; obviously an appointment means nothing. Guess I’ll find a good mechanic to do this from now on.

Once again, Chesney is unable to make a convincing pitch.

You might say that my house is Catland, but my cats don’t charge admission – other than full food and water dishes.
