We have one tree at our curb (can’t get rid of it as technically it belongs to the county as it is in the county right of way between sidewalk and street, but we are responsible for it). We are soon going to get hit – again – to replace sidewalk blocks and run the risk if we don’t, if someone falls and is hurt we are responsible. It has large leaves. We have no front lawn.
The front of our house – and the north side – are covered in leaves – small leaves. Why? Our neighbor to the north has a huge tree in their backyard (that they can’t afford to get rid of as they don’t want it – if it goes down their house, our garage and maybe our house and the house to the north of them will be badly damaged) and it drops A LOT of leaves.
Then their gardeners come and blow the leaves onto our property – along with their cut grass and their dog’s poo (husband stepped in latter which is how we originally found out, now that we are home all the time – he watches them do it). We have spoken to them, neighbors have spoken to them, I have stood there and watched them and they insist they did not do it! Also the gardener for the neighbor on the south side of us – blows their leaves onto our property.
So we are picking up leaves for 3 houses and cut grass and dog poo which is not ours. We are in our late 60s – husband can not bend over without getting sick and gets wiped out quickly. We had been using the snow shovel to clear the leaves – rake them together and pick up with a snow shovel, but I broke the “good snow shovel, again” and he does not want to have fix it a 3rd time so he bought a corrugated plastic piece that one lays down, pushes the leaves onto it and then it folds into a sort of funnel to dump them into the pail. I still prefer the snow shovel method.
Have picked up the leaves several times – now have to do again or he says we cannot put out Christmas lights or the leaves will catch fire on them.
Oops – Also, I had to make cover for the front of our RV – a Chevy van conversion – out of screening, ripstop nylon, and rare earth magnets – to put over the bottom of the windshield onto the hood of the van as we get so many leaves that rot and fall into the a/c-air vent entry that it costs us a chunk of money to have the vent cleared out several times a year and we just had to replace the vent motor – again – due to the leaves being blown onto property and the RV.
