Amid an investigation into Russian meddling in the last U.S. presidential election, a Russian propaganda Twitter network aimed at American audiences consistently spreads links to Breitbart and other right-wing or conspiracy theory websites that boost President Trump and bash Democrats.
The websites — which include True Pundit, the Gateway Pundit and Imperialist U — are regular features on the list of “Top Domains” pushed by a network of 600 Twitter accounts followed by the German Marshall Fund of the United States, which tracks a Russian disinformation and propaganda campaign focused on U.S. voters.
On Thursday, the most popular domains mentioned by the network in the previous 48 hours, according to the tracker, included True Pundit, the Russian government-controlled television network RT, the Gateway Pundit, Fox News, Russian government news agency Sputnik News and Breitbart.
The network’s main role is to amplify messages deemed to benefit the Kremlin, but that doesn’t mean the websites’ authors share the same goals, said Laura Rosenberger, director of the Alliance for Securing Democracy, which created the monitoring project for the fund.
“Just being shared by Kremlin information operations does not mean they are part of the Kremlin’s disinformation operations,” Rosenberger said. “It just means something on these sites, or a lot of things on these sites, is either advancing a message the Kremlin is trying to push or that it is trying to discredit.”
Joe Biden has his Democratic critics, but none have called him what Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Kellyanne Conway, Marco Rubio and others called Trump.
Have you ever referred to an individual whom you’d gotten to know over a period of several personal interactions as “a race-bating xenophobic religious bigot” and then come to admire and defend him?

How about this, have you ever come to the conclusion that a person was a “toxic mix of demagoguery and mean-spiritedness and nonsense” and then gone to work for him?
Nor have I.
Have you ever reached the conclusion that a man with whom you’ve had a number of exchanges “doesn’t know the difference between truth and lies,” and that “he lies, practically every word that comes out of his mouth,” and then become that person’s ardent supporter?
Of course not.
But Sens. Lindsey Graham, Rick Perry and Ted Cruz (in that order) each said those things about Donald Trump. And now worship at his altar.

Donald Trump’s erratic and reckless behavior in the last 24 hours has opened a rift in the Trump family over how to rein in the out-of-control president, according to two Republicans briefed on the family conversations.
Sources said Donald Trump Jr. is deeply upset by his father’s decision to drive around Walter Reed National Military Medical Center last night with members of the Secret Service while he was infected with COVID-19. “Don Jr. thinks Trump is acting crazy,” one of the sources told me.
The stunt outraged medical experts, including an attending physician at Walter Reed.
According to sources, Don Jr. has told friends that he tried lobbying Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump, and Jared Kushner to convince the president that he needs to stop acting unstable.
“Don Jr. has said he wants to stage an intervention, but Jared and Ivanka keep telling Trump how great he’s doing,” a source said. Don Jr. is said to be reluctant to confront his father alone.
“Don said, ‘I’m not going to be the only one to tell him he’s acting crazy,’” the source added.
One area where the family seems united is over the president’s manic tweeting early Monday morning.
After Trump sent out more than a dozen all-caps tweets, the Trump children told people they want Trump to stop. “They’re all worried. They’ve tried to get him to stop tweeting,” a source close to the family told me.
