Brutus: If you win a $1000 pool, people will suddenly know you exist—and people who snubbed you before, all of a sudden become your friends.

Good thing it isn’t the local loan shark. You’d get a person visit from his assistant.

Sadly, they do know that you exist. They just don’t care. Unless you are late for a payment of course…..

Got a call from the “social security” office that my number had illegal stuff on it. They hung up when I asked which one so I could stop using it.

and IF, IF somehow your name gets listed by the state of CA for not paying child support(never been divorced, only 4 kids) then you have a truly massive problem. They put it on my credit report, I would get it taken off, then they put it on again.-by that time it had been more than 30 years since I had lived in NoCal. It took me lawyers in LA 3 years before they finally stopped hounding me. Cost me well over $1000. They were trying to garnish my Govt retirement. Total frakking insanity.

If your phone is on the do not call list, you can sue them for $1500 each call. But we know finding them and the filing suit is hardly worth it. Even so reporting the call to the FTC eventually gets some of them fined and stoppedI would like to see a national coalition of lawyers who would band together and sue for you, I would let them have $1000 just to see them sued. And considering the number of calls there is possibly several million in collections possible.
