Shouldn’t be a hard choice in November between a candidate that shows morals and empathy for his fellow citizens against an ORANGE BUFOON who’s all about what riches America can give him and his even more worthless clan.
Fine by me if they want to stay away from me. Not all Trump supporters are against social distancing and wearing masks but most of those who are gathering in large indoor groups and refusing to wear masks are Trump supporters. Those of us who are being careful are alive DESPITE them.
I’m thinking of the fellow on the right. Probably a hard worker, not a rich man.
In school, we considered the question of why a poor landless southern white man would not ally himself with slaves to improve his and the slave’s lot in life. Economically, poor whites and blacks had common interests that each could further by working together. Why would they not form that bond?
Before and after the Civil War, laws prohibited interaction between blacks and whites, leaving blacks the shorter end of the stick. Our history texts suggested that legal and thus social separation of the races bolstered the self image of the poor whites. Think of the Ewell family in To Kill a Mockingbird. Ah may be a piece o’ sh!t, but least ah ain’t no. . . Thus, while the poor white man’s alliance with his white betters might leave him little economic satisfaction, but at least assured him that there was someone he stood above in the world.
What does white supremacy do? Preserve our perfect whiteness? Preserve our western European heritage? This article suggests an answer: https://bittersoutherner.com/from-the-southern-perspective/miscellany/what-you-dont-know-about-the-south
Why does Trump stoke racial fear and hatred? For some folks I suspect it is good enough just to know that someone else stands on the ladder beneath you. And you better keep your eyes on that darker skinned person with the accent in case tries to take away your rung.
Of course, that keeps this poor white fella from watchin’ the folks on the ladder above him while they’re busy fleecin’ ’im.
Not to belabor the point – but recent “Breaking News” reports indicate that, not only are I.C.E. officials continuing to separate children from their parents, but, in Georgia, they are allowing an American “Mengele” to perform unnecessary surgeries on immigrant women which renders them incapable of bearing children.
They tried this once before on “blacks” in the South in the twenties and thirties, and now they’re at it again – this time with immigrants!
They couldn’t be further apart ideologically, civilly, educationally, ethically, prejudicially, or empathically … and there are no truly objective metrics for these attributes. That our political system has sunk so low that it must use disinformation and divisiveness, shows the world a failing society.
The United States has people that are so smart that they can invent a rocket that can land itself on a barge yet the United States has an underclass of morons that still support Trump. A subspecies of Homo sapiens could be called Homo trumpian, a group characterized by small minds and jumbo pickup trucks.
This is the inevitable result of the GOP “Southern Strategy”. This all began when Reagan ended the Fairness Doctrine and allowed blathering assholes like Limpbaugh to spew their bile unimpeded by fact. Then, when the GOP took control of the House in 1995, they set the stage for Fox"News" which made all of this predictable.
Called eugenics they also sterilized white women with loose morals and mentally challenged. Bad time when old white men decide who does and doesn’t procreate

It makes me wonder that presuming Biden is able to win, what will become of the large contingent of people who go along with trumpism…
