Lynchings, police killing harmless individuals only because they can, disenfranchisement of minorities and closing of voting stations in opponents’ districts, complete disregard by Republicans of any and all balances of power described in the Constitution… need I go on? There SHOULD be riots! The entire American experiment began only because of taxes by the British. Now the government is filling its pockets and those of its friends at the expense of the entire nation. If Revolution was acceptable in 1776, why not now when the entire system seems to be broken and partisan?

Police brutality. Systematic racism. Racist, traitor trump in the white house. Corrupt justice department. Kelly, those are worse than burning a bible or a flag.

I miss my country also. Vote blue in November, from dog catcher to president and get it back.

Neo-Nazis and Klanners marching the streets, waving Tiki torches and yelling “Jews will not replace us” and “Blood and Soil”.

RW militias and white supremacists infiltrate and disrupt legitimate protests, cosplaying at their target groups in order to make it appear they are the perpetrators.

But you have a president that thinks that’s OK. There’s good people on “both sides”, and as long as they give him a shiny misdirection to vent his spleen at, it’s all good. he’s as much a dupe as the guy who thinks he’s being clever with the headlines.

Uh…. Bibles and flags being burned is something new Kelley? And those are the things that make you miss the past? What past was that? The past of the Vietnam War era? The past of enduring Jim Crow laws and segregation in everything? Back when women couldn’t vote and Republican Presidents practiced gun boat diplomacy? Maybe you miss the times when blacks were slaves only landed white men could vote?

Yeah let’s Make America Regress Again!

Hmm, I wonder how a Black American who suffered from racism his/her whole life would feel about that? Things need to change, both legally and morally/ethically.

When I was young the schools were segregated. I don’t miss that. Do you miss segregation, Steve?

The only Bible that burned was the one Trump was holding after his photo op through Lafayette Square.

Covid spread by unscientific and uncaring Republicans is keeping the USA shut down and creating a new Great Depression. The Republicans are destroying the USA and they expect you to be grateful to them as they do everything they can to destroy the public health care system.

This is what happens when you vote for right wing liars and criminals.

Steve Kelley also co-writes a cartoon “Dustin”. I couldn’t help but notice that today’s “Dustin” is illustrative of a sexist male mind defining the concerns of a female mind. He hasn’t a clue.

A bible burned is better than a bible used as a political prop by the president (held upside down, no less). A flag burned (which was declared protected speech by the SCOTUS nearly 20 years ago) is better than a cross burned in someone’s yard.

Shouldn’t that paper read “Bibles Used As A Prop, Flags Molested”?

Interesting Kelley worries about non-living items such as bibles and flags yet doesn’t seem too bothered by Black citizens being killed by rogue cops, one actually so brazen as to look at the people watching him commit murder. Or tear gas being used on crowds by rogue peace officers, not caring if people with vulnerable respiratory systems are victims.

If you only look at where there have been mistakes you will never look at the successes. Healthy people realize they have made mistakes and also look at the successes they have had, then they find ways to avoid those same mistakes in the future. Others look only at the mistakes they have made and dwell on them to their own detriment. There is an old saying about not throwing the baby out with the bathwater that applies to people and countries alike.

Everybody (I suppose) has some fine memories of their youth and longs to feel that good again: Good digestion and joints, clear vision of what could be and the feeling that with effort it was possible. Most of us seem to think that the circumstances when we were young were better than they are now. I kind of doubt it… for most people. It’s a sort of projection of how good we felt onto where/when we were that age.

There’s a much wittier version of this. News show interviews an elderly Russian celebrity, who says he was born in St Petersburg. “Where did you grow up?” “Petrograd.” “Where do you live now?” “Leningrad.” “If you could live anywhere, where would you like to live?” “St Peterburg.”
