That money is supposed to be dumped on the rich people. Those poor people are just going to spend it.

The Republicans in congress, on the other hand, would never want to spend money trying to save American lives.

Giving money to working Americans because they need it? Bad. Giving more tax breaks to rich Americans just because . . . . Good. Old Sheldon must be so pleased.

There’s an ancient meme about people who have no idea how to solve a problem except by “throwing money at it”. We tend to think of such people as being less than smart, less than wise. No wonder  the gov’t is trying to fix things by throwing money at it. But the problem won’t go away by itself, so lacking a better solution, it seems to me that we really ought  to be throwing money at it. Because otherwise, people are going to die… though, maybe that doesn’t matter too much to the folks at the top…

Ramirez what, exactly, is Trump’s response to the pandemic?

So far, the Trump response of LET ’ER RIP! has resulted in 156,000 dead. And counting.

Trump, AND His Disciples, believe that those 156,000 dead, and counting, are a result of so much testing being done.

As the economy deteriorates because of TRUMP”S poor response to COVID more and more people are being left without jobs. One day even even Ramirez may lose his and find his savings gone. If and when that happens I wonder if he will have the same opinion on Congress “throwing money away”.

Trump and the Republicans already blew a huge hole in the deficit with their Tax Cut and Spend Scam. Might as well use money to achieve something useful to actual people that need it instead of billionaires and corporations that don’t.

For once I agree with Ramirez, if I have understood this correctly. I think he is pointing out that “back to work” to stimulate the economy means more to the govt than keeping people safe.

You need money to live, and you need a job to make money. there are a lot of people in this country that need financial assistance to survive. Cough it up.

Now, the deficit spending seems to be a problem for the GOP. Money should be thrown at the wealthy so it can trickle down. That’s worked so well in the past, am I right? /s

Don’t blame Congress. Trump is the one who failed to take the virus seriously calling it a hoax. Then pushing to reopen because he thought it would help his re-election.

In the minds of Ramirez and fellow NJs, it would be far better for people to simply catch COVID-19 instead of “interfering” with his perceived “rights!”

Just so I understand, Reps don’t have a problem with Trump spending over $1T a year to prop up an economy so he can claim it is the greatest in history? I thought republicans believed that all debt and deficit spending was evil? Yet when using it to actually help during a crisis (which is what the debt is designed to do) Republicans suddenly get a “budget hawk” attack? It tells you whose side they are really on. Maybe Ramirez won’t put a price on a single life, but how about 155,000 (and rising)?

Classic Conservative logic. Pouring money to solve a health crisis is bad. Pouring money into tax subsidies for corporations, tax cuts for wealthy, and defense contracts for weapons sales to foreign countries and proxy wars is good.

When Cicero said that the sinews of war are infinite money, I think he was being facetious. But the truth is that money is the fuel to get things done. Ramirez’s joke is so old, it’s a cliché; but this is no joking matter. People are dying, and the conservatives are sucking up as much of the money they can get their hands on. this is just sick

The mentally deficient Republican covid bill had hundreds of millions for jet fighters and nothing for testing and tracing which is the only thing that will reopen the country.

More “If I ran my business like they run the government” kind of thinking. Bloody stupid.

Listen, the United States is NOT a business and if you try to run it like a business you’re a fool. Our object is NOT to make money. Our object is to manage resources.

Quit thinking of it as money, Ramirez. It isn’t money. It’s resources.

And you know what? The United States of America has basically unlimited resources. We do a BAD job of managing them, I agree. We’re a wasteful, piggish lot. We allow many of our resources pool into just a few, “special” areas and many areas get poor access.

We ought to be making budgets to fund projects for decades in the future. Some corporations have long term plans going into centuries. Instead we barely manage to make it from month to month.

Folks – We should have resources set aside for all kinds of contingencies. Hurricanes. Fires. Pandemics. But we don’t. Who is responsible for this leadership failure?

    Republicans. That’s who.

And we wouldn’t be throwing resources into a burning if the Republicans allowed us to better set aside resources for “a rainy day”.

If republicans had done what was right in the first place covid would have lasted 4 to 8 weeks. But they totally screwed it up and now we are the bane of the world.
